# Setting Department Abbreviations and Icons

The abbreviation displayed is department specific, which means a same department can be displayed with different abbreviation to different users.&#x20;

If abbreviation is not set for the current user's department, it will utilize the public department abbreviations.&#x20;

Use case:

For representing departments in form fields.
